    Las consultas relacionadas con el comportamiento de los animales de compañía han ido adquiriendo, día a día, una importancia creciente en la clínica cotidiana de perros y gatos; sin embargo, la incorporación de la etología clínica como asignatura a los planes de estudio de la medicina veterinaria en México es reciente.
    En este capítulo se tratarán temas prácticos como la importancia y aplicación de la etología clínica en la medicina veterinaria, conducta normal, comunicación y estructura social, valoración del paciente, relación médico-paciente-propietario, anamnesis, desarrollo de la consulta, prevención, diagnóstico y tratamiento de los principales problemas de conducta vistos en la consulta comportamental de perros y gatos, enfatizando en aquellos más frecuentes, por ejemplo: problemas de ansiedad, eliminación, agresión dirigida hacia el humano, así como otros problemas menos comunes y poco estudiados, tales como los desórdenes obsesivo compulsivos o la disfunción cognitiva, que se verán con menor detalle.

    The behaviour consults of companion animals have been adquiring, day by day, uprising meaning at everyday clinic of dogs and cats. However, the inclusion of clinic etology as a subject of the programs of veterinary medicine studies is recient in Mexico.
