Foreword (OCR-pasted):
The papers contained in this book were presented at the Fifth International Symposium on
Reproductive Physiology ofFish, held July 2-8, 1995, at The University ofTexas, Austin, Texas. The
purpose of the Fifth Symposium was similar to that of the previous meetings held at Paimpont ( 1977),
Wageningen (1982), St. Johns (1987) and Norwich (1991); to serve as a forum for the
communication of recent advances on all aspects of the reproductive physiology offish. The meeting
had eight oral sessions covering the pituitary and gonadotropins, the hypothalamus and brain,
aquaculture, environmental influences on reproduction, reproductive life histories, reproductive
behavior, gonadal physiology and gametogenesis. Each session began with a keynote talk followed
by four shorter oral presentations. The five-page papers in this book represent keynote talks while
shorter presentations are contained in three-page papers. Besides oral presentations, there were two
large poster sessions containing over 180 poster presentations. These are represented in the book
by one-page papers. In keeping with past symposia in this series, the papers were all reviewed at the
time of the meeting by symposium participants. We would like to thank the numerous reviewers for
their time and effort. Their comments helped authors in revising approximately 1 00 of the symposium
