Animal Models of Brain Tumors
by Ricardo Martínez Murillo, Alfredo Martínez
Publication Date: Nov.5, 2012
The goal of Animal Models of Primary Brain Tumors is to bring together developments and discoveries in "in vivo" experimental tumor research of the last two decades that have provided advances in our understanding on the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the generation, progression, and clinical outcome of brain neoplasms. The utility of the different animal tumor models in pre-clinical studies requires new methods to validate, compare, and contrast the animal model with its proposed human counterpart. Readers will be referred to three main sections, including: i.) cellular and molecular biology of brain tumors, ii) generation of genetically accurate brain tumor animal models , and iii.) chemically induced tumors in rodents . A full description of the laboratory protocols will be given, thus allowing their validation by independent investigators.
