La monografía contiene aspectos relativos a la biología y estructura de los parásitos y sus vectores, la inmunidad que desarrollan los hospedadores frente a los vermes y la epidemiología de la enfermedad. Actualiza además cuestiones relacionadas con el diagnóstico, tratamiento y mantenimiento de los parásitos en animales experimentales, así como la participación de los endosimbiontes del género Wolbachia en la biología de Dirofilaria immitis y su posible incidencia en la patología de la dirofilariosis.
